So, you're new to forums? Well here is how they work.
Forums come in many shapes, sizes, and colors, but they all have the basic components. You have the navigation bar, categories, boards, and threads. Let's break those parts down. Then we will get into the actual joining of said forums and then how to go about getting the rping done.
RED ARROW: It's pointing at the navigation bar. This is where you can view things such as the help section, a search tool, members on the boards, your profile, and your messages. Admin is for the actual creator of the board and will not appear for you unless you are an administrator or the forum owner. The screenshot is already viewing the home page. If you are ever clicking around the different categories and things, just click the home page to go all the way back to the beginning.
GREEN ARROW: This is pointing at the categories. The categories contain boards. Categories are simply there to organize things. On this forum, the General category would hold things such as out of roleplay discussions, maybe some news, or other things. Then the category called Roleplay obviously holds all the different boards where roleplaying will occur.
BLUE ARROW: These are the different boards. Currently, there is only one board on this site called "The Luna Child". Inside the boards are where the threads are posted.

(I switched to a different forum to explain some things not possible on the previously used forum. I do apologize.)
So now you clicked on a board.
GREEN ARROW: Sometimes, there are sub-boards within a forum. Sub-boards are exactly like boards, only they exist inside other boards (and so on and so on). This is especially helpful for big places that need lots of organizing. Eg: Hogwarts has four houses. The category is called "School". The board is called "Hogwarts". It's sub-boards are called "Ravenclaw House", "Gryffindor House", and so on.
RED ARROW: Below the sub-boards are all of the threads inside the board you clicked. In this example, the board we clicked on was called "Outskirts". You can see that the red arrow is pointing to the bar that says "Outskirts". We can then go to the sub-boards of Moun Aghrad or Autumwind Preserve, or we can go to one of the topics like "Fiddler's Watch".
On the list of threads, you can see how it is organized by what location was posted in most recently. You can also see how many posts were made, who first created the thread, and how many times that thread was viewed.

We clicked on a thread.
We see the navbar at the top. Below that is another navbar that takes you around the forums. Drop downs appear when you hover over them with your mouse.
Below that, we see the faded bar with the name "Heber Highlands"; the name of the thread we are in. (I apologize for the nearly invisible text there).
Now we see the posts made in the threads.
