Proboards NOT Webs
Forums should no longer be webs. Stop using webs. We all know webs sucks. Webs is there to drain your money, sanity, and life. Use proboards. It is awesome.
Perosonally, I switched from webs forums to proboards due to several reasons. Let me quickly list the pros and cons below, then follow up with a super quick tutorial on how to navigate proboards.

WEBS VS PROBOARDS
Limited pages
Limited bandwidth Only headers, categories, topics, and replies Putting in images sucks up bandwidth Some things are free, some things are premium |
Unlimited pages
Unlimited bandwidth Subcategories upon subcategories upon subcategories upon subcategories... Did I mention the unlimited bandwidth? Everything is free, and they have more options than webs! |
Proboards is, in essence, VERY easy to use, either as a site creator or as a roleplayer. I learned how to make a simple forum within an hour. I can now make a forum within ten minutes. So simple, and without any hassle.
And now for one of the shortest tutorials ever on how to navigate proboards! (with fancy, shmancy pictures!)

This is what you see when you click the Roleplay link in the navbar up there. This is the home page of the site with the forums smack dab in front of you.
Green Arrow: points to a news reel! You can check there for messages from me concerning the forums and stuff. I will most likely set up a news page in the future for lengthy stuff, but short blurbs of news will be posted there. Blue Arrow: These are the Headers (like in webs). They divide stuff up. There are two Headers on this site: General and Roleplay. Orange Arrow: Under each Header, we have Categories (called Boards on proboards). We see the ones in Roleplay are labeled as Gildargen, Ender Town, and so on. But notice right under the descriptions of some of them, there are these things called sub-boards. What are those? |
So we clicked on Gildargen. Then we clicked on Downtown. Now we're here, and we can still click on Hawthorne Tower.
Subcategories within subcategories within subcategories :3 Anyway. Green Arrow: Forgot to mention, this is the basic navigation bar. Home will take you to the main forum home page. Help gives you site support. Search allows you to look up anything on the forum. Members shows you which people are members of this site. Admin is a panel used for editing the forum (only if you have the right permissions/own the forum). Profile takes you to your own profile. Messages are the messages members send you (like an inbox). Orange Arrow: This is a helpful, quick navigation bar. I could just click on Gildargen and it would take me right back there. It also has a drop-down feature (displayed below). Ugly Yellow Arrow: Notice, this is a sub-board of Gildargen, but it also holds a sub-board called the Hawthorne Tower. Sub-boards will always be at the top. Blue Arrow: Threads will be underneath the sub-boards. Threads are essentially topics. |
Green Arrow: If you hover over the topic's name, you can see the description of it even without clicking on it. Cool.
Notice how similar the set up of the forums are to webs. Just a little different in appearance, but it's the same essentially. it has topic names, their creator, how many people posted there, and how many people viewed it. Also shows who posted last and when. Forgot to include an arrow, sorry, but at the bottom of the picture, notice how there is the Board Information and Statistics! |
That is the basic layout of a proboards forums. As you can see, it is similar to webs with some added features to make things better organized and easier to manage and navigate. Try making a proboards and play around with the features.
Note
The place to login will 99% of the time be in the navbar, which is most often underneath the banner.
It says 'Home", "Help", "Search" on the left and then "Welcome Guest. Please Login or Register." on the right.

Yet Another Reason Why I Love Proboards
The adorable error messages (for that rare occasion they actually have one...) xD
"We're really sorry about this, but due to (an angry bear) server issues we could not load this forum. Our technicians are aware of this problem and hope to have (the Err Bear under control) this situation sorted shortly!"
